MICROSOFT FOXPRO 26 FOR MS DOS CODE
The problem in the FPW version was created by the Windows linker startup code used in the creation of both the.EXE and.ESL file. Cy Welch Senior Programmer/Analyst MetSYS Inc BillI know of no 'too-fast cpu' problem with FP DOS. The interesting fact is that FPW was not compiled in borland C, but rather in Watcom C. Here's one that I found: There doesn't seem to be a mention in any of the associated readme's of the 'too-fast cpu' problem being addressed. Applying the 2.6a updates are probably worth the trouble since theydid correct a number of problems in both the DOS and Windows versions. In fact there are other Windows programs created with the Borland C compiler (that obviously have nothing to dowith Microsoft), that used the same linker and also have the fast cpu startup problem. The problem in the FPWversion was created by the Windows linker startup code used in the creationof both the.EXE and.ESL file. Yet.Maybe it's not 'too fast' = maybe it's an AMD (I haven't gotten amodel number from them yet, but it's not but a couple of weeks old)and there's an issue with that CPU? At least, after we PCAnywhere'd itdown to them yesterday afternoon, it hadn't locked up by the end ofthe day, and I haven't heard any cries of anguish all today. Wequickly got out a Fox26DOS that was bequeathed to us by a client, andthat didn't seem to make any difference at all.īut after applying thepatches, it seems to be running. It locks the thing up tight as a drum -they were having to power off to get reset. It got installed on awhizbang Hewlett Packard (I think I heard the tech say 600MHz) lastweek and got hammered flat. We have an accounting app that's run fine with Fox 2.0from 386's through P233's for several years. Bill,I know of no 'too-fast cpu' problem with FP DOS.Okkaaayyyyy.
